Marching for Marriage Equality

Not really eco, but definitely lesbo. Yankee Elv and I were out protesting for equal rights, apparently to no avail… yet.

The group gathers in Brisbane for the Marriage Equality march.

After the speeches, we're still waiting for the police to show up to block off the roads, so we psych ourselves up by practicing some chants.

Some time later, the cops still haven't shown up and people are getting restless, so it's decided (by a loud cheer) that we're going to march without road blocks. We have a march permit so shouldn't get arrested... hopefully...

At some unknown signal, we start to march. Car horns are tooting, people are staring and there's lots of noise. The Socialist Alliance group might be a little radical for me, but those girls sure know how to rock a mega-phone!

After a energy-filled, but uneventful march (no arrests, and the cops got in place pretty quick once we started marching), we arrive back at our starting point for a final hurrah and a bit of a sit-down!

Sorry about the lack of pictures of the march itself, but it’s hard to chant and yell and clap and whistle, plus handle a camera at the same time.

As for the latest events in related politics, I’m interested that they’re planning to remove the amendment that Australia’s own Bush-wannabe, Little Johnny, put in motion in 2004. I think that means it will not longer be specifically stated that marriage is between one man and one woman. Will that allow people who get married overseas to have their marriaged recognised here?

Hmm. Connecticut here we come?
